El Guapo Review | Real Ale Brewing | John’s Brew Review

June 28, 2017 // 0 Comments

This episode I'm joined by a special guest (my wife) to review one of the best selections I've had of her favorite style. This is El Guapo from Real Ale Brewing out of Texas! El Guapo is a variation on Real Ale's original Gose which they took and aged in Tequila Barrels! Seriously, this beer is something special. The original brew is very enjoyable and refreshing but those Tequila Barrels really add something to it giving it a tangy, earthy depth that is just outstanding! [Read More]

Smoked Porter | Stone Brewing | John’s Brew Review

June 6, 2017 // 0 Comments

Published on Jun 6, 2017 Welcome back to John's Brew Review! This episode I'm reviewing Stone's Smoked Porter. This was one of my go to readily available Porters. Unfortunately though, Stone recently discontinued it. However I was lucky enough to run into some 2015 bottles at a local shop recently and figured I'd give it a parting shout out. If you've been watching my reviews for a while you'll know I'm a fan of beers that actually taste like what they advertise on the label. In that respect this Smoked Porter does not disappoint. Smokey flavor hits you pretty much right away. Underneath it is a hoppy brew with a nice slightly sweet chocolate flavor as well. If you're lucky enough to run into it, I'd recommend giving it a shot. Happy Birthday shout out to my buddies Jason Das and Richard Langston as well! Cheers! [Read More]

Electric Jellyfish NE IPA | Pinthouse Pizza | John’s Brew Review

May 23, 2017 // 0 Comments

Welcome back to John's Brew Review! This episode I'm reviewing an outstanding New England style IPA from Pinthouse Pizza in Austin, Texas! Unfortunately for anyone outside of Texas, this is a local brew only. If you're planning on ever visiting the area though, you should definitely give this one a try. I brought home a Crowler just to review it. Honestly I just wanted an excuse to drink more of it. NE IPAs are a very popular style right now for good reason. I haven't had any experience with this style but according to some input from friends, this is a brew worthy of the title for sure. Juicy, flavorful, hoppy, perfectly bitter and overall just a great great beer. [Read More]

Jester King Simple Means Farmhouse Altbier | John’s Brew Review

May 18, 2017 // 0 Comments

Welcome back to John's Brew Review! This episode I'm reviewing Jester King's Simple Means Farmhouse Altbier! I chose a beer from Jester King because this happens to be American Craft Beer Week and I think they're one of the best examples of a quality local craft brewery in my area. These guys are out of Austin, Texas and the brew itself was a very enjoyable experience but you'll definitely want to check out my full review to see if it might be something for you. This is a Farmhouse Altbier combo and it has a lot of strong flavors that may be surprising to people familiar with the Farmhouse style. A little smokey and a little tangy which leads to a very unique flavor experience. Overall a very fun brew. Thanks as always for watching and if you enjoyed please don't forget to SUBSCRIBE [Read More]

Mama Tried IPA | Brazos Valley Brewing | John’s Brew Review

May 16, 2017 // 0 Comments

Welcome back to John's Brew Review! This episode I'm bringing you another Texas native. Mama Tried from Brazos Valley Brewing is one of the first local brews I had when I moved back to Texas and damn is it a fine example of the kind of quality coming out of this state. Not a perfect beer or score but it has a lot of great qualities both IPA fans and general beer lovers will enjoy. Perfect hoppy flavor for me. All at a great price. Definitely check this one out! May 10, 2017 // 0 Comments

Welcome back to John's Brew Review! For this episode I'm reviewing Boulevard's Tank 7 Farmhouse Ale. Spoiler alert: I've been a big fan of this brew and brewery for a while. Farmhouse Ales are a great introduction into Belgian style ales and this is one of the best examples of them. Check out Beer Advocates description of the style here: https://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/sty... I've made a lot of format changes to the show as well! I hope you enjoy the new look and I'd love to hear your thoughts on the show. Let me know what you thought in the comments! Lone Pint Brewery: Yellow Rose Smash IPA | John’s Brew Review

May 6, 2017 // 0 Comments

Welcome back to John's Brew Review! This time I'm trying out Yellow Rose Smash IPA from Lone Pint brewery. This happens to be a brew that's local to me here in Texas. It's a high quality IPA and I had a great time reviewing it. That means a lot coming from me because I'm not typically much of an IPA fan. This is an IPA for people who love the style and many who don't will also probably enjoy! It also has some of the most appealing and attention grabbing packaging I've seen.
